I’ve never cared for Rachel Ray… but I had no idea she’s a suicide bomber.

May 28th, 2008 – 9:29 am

The Boston Globe is reporting that Dunkin Donuts has agreed to pull a commercial because of it’s apparent message.

In the recent television commercial spot, Rachel Ray wears a scarf around her neck. Fox News commentator Michelle Malkin interpreted it to be similar to the traditional keffiyeh headdress worn by Arab men.

Alright… whatever. That cup she’s holding looks like it’s filled with diarrhea… what’s the problem?

Well, Malkin goes on to say:

“The keffiyeh, for the clueless, is the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad. Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos…”

Tell me if I’m missing something here, but I just don’t see it. That’s like saying “pants have come to symbolize people who kill kids.”

Dunkin Donuts was telling everyone to shove it for a while, but the pressure just got too big. In their statement they said:

‘‘In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial.’’

I don’t know what infuriates me more; The fact that people have gone overboard in misinterpreting a scarf, or Dunkin Donuts caving into their silly demands…

Or perhaps what really bends my rod is the response Malkin gave to the pulling of the ad:

‘‘It’s refreshing to see an American company show sensitivity to the concerns of Americans opposed to Islamic jihad and its apologists.’’

If you asked me, it would be refreshing for Malkin to show sensitivity to all people (not just Americans) of different heritages and religious beliefs… and not stereotype them just because of something they are wearing.

There is nothing American about what she is suggesting.

Just so we’re clear, this is the same Michelle Malkin that dressed up like a cheerleader and did a cheer about democrats cutting and running in Iraq as part of her deep political commentary, right? Are you really that surprised?

great comments. I am astonished at the mere mention of people being offended by the keffiyeh RR is wearing. How dumb are people? And to even suggest that her dress consultant thought it had a paisley design. LOL. Anyways, thank for pointing out the ridiculous of this whole ordeal.

    Mr. Zack:

Guess we’re all in danger if you think a scarf creates suicide bombing.

It’s only an article of clothing and nothing more. Too many people have put too much into this.

Hey, I don’t like Rachel Ray either. But obviously you care enough to start something about what she wears.

After reading her column for the first time, I feel physically ill….what a stupid person!!! I can’t believe people like her have so much influence. People have to be mind-less to listen to the garbage she spews. I’m afraid to read any of her other articles. BTW…I like what you said about pants and kid killers…great example.

Don’t you get it? Rachel Ray is sending a covert message to Al Queda. I mean she’s clearly un-american always cooking that italian food. I think I’ll send Michelle Malkin a foil hat like mine so we can intercept the messages. Then again she might already have one.

Rachel definitly looks suspect in that scarf! The whole deal is that many celebrities are wearing them as a political fashion statement–aware or unaware of what it symbolizes. Michelle Malkin is brave and intelligent to stand up for what shes sees as a brazen disregard to the war on terror.

You know who else? Zebras. Man, those guys are running around with black and white stripes over their entire bodies. It’s disgusting. Someone should stop them.

Or colour them in so they aren’t aiding Palestinian rebels that way.

SO NOW EVERY SCARF WITH A FRINGE IS A SYMBOL OF JIHAD??!! THIS LOGIC IS SICK. JUST A SIDE BAR– SLIGHTLY RELATED,GANG COLORS- MY KID WORE A NEW OUTFIT THAT WAS PRIMARILY RED AND BLACK TO SCHOOL, AND THE POLICE QUESTIONED HER IF SHE WAS IN A GANG. WHO NEW??? SAME PRINCIPLE- SOME LOW LIFES PICK SOMETHING TO SYMBOLIZE THEMSELVES, AND NOW NO ONE CAN WEAR ANYTHING SIMILAR WITHOUT ALARMS GOING OFF! BY THE WAY- WHETHER IT’S POLITICALLY CORRECT OR NOT — THIS IS STILL AMERICA. ALTHOUGH I DON’T BELIEVE SHE IS EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF THE BAD GUYS- IN AMERICA- ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES-FREEDOM OF SPEECH GOES FOR ALL, EVEN THE POLITICALLY INCORRECT. LETS NOT GET SO NUTS ABOUT BEING PATRIOTIC, THAT WE DESTROY WHAT AMERICA IS REALLY ABOUT.

    TRISHA:

I AGREE WITH YOU, ALTHOUGH IT TAKES A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT TURN FROM FREE SPEECH WHEN IT INVOLVES A COMMERCIAL PRODUCED BY A COMPANY.

YES, COMPANIES HAVE BEEN AWARDED RIGHTS AS INDIVIDUALS, BUT PEOPLE TEND TO HOLD THEM TO A DIFFERENT STANDARD WHEN THEY “EXPRESS” THEMSELVES.

I’M NOT EXACTLY WHAT I’M TRYING TO SAY… I’M JUST HAVING A FUN TIME DOING IT IN ALL CAPS.

This is a massive Illuminati plot so that we will all forget the Oakland Raiders case against the Panthers and Buccaneers for trademark infringement which was taken in a State of California court which is similar to Federal court but quite different because it has no jurisdiction over these type of cases.

    Similar is the keyword.

It looks like a keffiyeh, could function as one but is not one.

God! That is just ridiculous! People who thought Rachael Ray is a suicide bomber need to get a life! I think Daphne from Scooby Doo wears a scarf… is she sending messages to kids to be suicide bombers as well??

My understanding is that ‘Paisley’ is a Persian motif. I suppose that is a terrorist fashion statement as well then?
